About the song

Recorder Blues lyrics and music were both created in 2004 by Mathieu Dantec, aka Dantec Trippy. I’m a French producer and artist and at that time I was experiencing a strange “duality” feeling as I was becoming a professional audio-worker.

I am not a native English speaker and the way I wrote Recorder Blues Lyrics may sound like I’m from outer space. Let yourself go and enjoy the ride.

Recorder Blues Lyrics:

recorder blues lyrics

Turn the lights on, open the window.

Get the room some fresh air before the musicians come.

You’ve an hour to prepare: Make them feel comfortable.

When they play you wonder what’s you’re doing there?

When they fail in anger, you’d like to keep the take.

You think it’s wonders, you envy their gift.

There is the hot smell from that coffee you prepare.

You hear the computer booting once again.

The microphone stands need to be set.

You can’t be late, it must be perfect.

Cause you know

If you’re not good, it could be awful what they make.

And when they play you wonder what’s you’re doing there?

You’d like to tell them it’s wonders they create!

But you don’t have the time. And you’re the one who says:

“No it’s not the one, we have to do it once again.”

Some of them are anxious, and need to be calmed down.

They are asking you, and you pretend you know.

You guide them inside their own universe

It’s like you reversed your feeling inferior.

Some may see through you and feel disappointed cause

You are not the artist but just the audience.

You don’t pretend to being anything else!

It’s what you are doing, you’re only recording.

And when they play you wonder what’s you’re doing there?

You’d like to tell them it’s wonders they create!

But you don’t have the time. And you’re the one who says:

“No it’s not the one, we have to do it once again.”

Everyone has gone, left you all alone.

It’s time to burn the rom, to backup what they’ve done.

There is still a fog, but no one is smoking.

Slowly cause you’re done, unplug the microphones.

The mess, to be tied- up, will wait for tomorrow.

It’s quiet at this moment you’re listening alone

In the morning sun, through the monitoring,

The little that you’ve done: what you’ve been recording.

And when they play you wonder what’s you’re doing there?

You’d like to tell them it’s wonders they create!

But you don’t have the time. And you’re the one who says:

“No it’s not the one, we have to do it once again.”

Time makes things real

The song was released 14 years later and gave its name to my first EP published in 2018.

The feelings I had already experienced when I first got in charge of recording performers went on and on all along my professionnal career.

My studio in 2003 is the place where Recorder Blues lyrics take place

I still don’t really know what to think about this but at least it helped me finally assume to express it. That meant I had to get out from the position of audio engineer, or producer, and be an artist myself. I had to become the one I was working with everyday, for years…

The version of the song published in 2018 definitely sounds special because it is the only track I did not produce myself! Talking about the questions of being a producer and/or an artist, I only wished to be the artist on this one and it’s my friend & colleague Jaff that arranged and produced the track.
